5 Best Bodybuilding Sleep Aid Supplements For Night Recovery

Sleep is probably the most underrated factor in the process of gaining muscle. Bodybuilding sleep aid supplements are very popular to help with this.

If you are a bodybuilder or someone that is looking to gain muscle or lose fat, sleep is a crucial factor.

Without sleep, your body is not getting enough rest and therefore is unable to recover properly.

While your asleep, your body is repairing your muscle from the hard workout, but not only that. Your body is also restoring your hormone levels, which play a large role in the amount of muscle mass your body can handle.

Sleep is something a bodybuilder should take very seriously, and sometimes this gets neglected.

There are always days that you are just unable to get enough sleep in or have too many things on your mind.

That's where natural sleep aid supplements come in handy. They consist of the necessary vitamins, herbs, and minerals to get you a good night of sleep.

In this article, we're going to present to you our top 5 best bodybuilding sleep aid supplements of 2020.

Sleep supplements can do wonders for your overall sleep quality. It can make you feel rested, healthy, and fit.

There are lots of different sleep supplements on the market right now, but not all work the same and consist of the same ingredients.

Many companies underdose their products and sometimes use 10% of the actual clinical dosage used in the studies.

That's why it's so important to always check the ingredient list and do the research on the product.

1. Hibernate: Most Stacked Sleep Aid

First on the list is Hibernate by Huge Nutrition. It's by far the most stacked and potent bodybuilding sleep aid supplement on the market.

We've tried all of them and this gave the best results in terms of sleep and a refreshed feeling.

The ingredients concluded in the Hibernate formula all have been clinically dosed which means that you will actually get the best result of every ingredient.

1 scoop of Hibernate will give you 3 grams GABA, 3 grams Kanna, and 3mg Melatonin, which is sometimes 10 times more than you get with other supplements.

The overall experience we've got was a very relaxed feeling which got us falling asleep in no time. We experienced a very deep sleep which results in a refreshed feeling when waking up.

2. STEEL Rested AF

STEEL Rested AF is also a very beneficial product which is in our opinion the second-best on the list.

Their formula consists of the basics like GABA, Tyrosine, L-Theanine, and Valerian Root. Unfortutalny they have a blend so the total dosages aren't mentioned on it.

One thing we noticed was that this product also included Phenibut, which is a very powerful nootropic. However, they didn't mention did on their website, which is kind of odd.

When you take 1 scoop you will feel absolutely feel rested the next day. This stuff really works very well and this is probably due to the fact that it contains Phenibut.

3. Redcon1 Fade Out

Redcon1 Fade Out

Number three on the list is Fade Out by Redcon1. We reviewed many supplements from Redcon1, for example, Total War Pre Workout, and we always liked them.

This time they came out with an excellent sleep supplement that also contains the necessary vitamins and minerals like Vitamin C, Magnesium, and Zinc.

The thing we liked about this bodybuilding sleep aid supplement is that they contained many different extracts like the Chamomile flower extract and the Hops Flower extract.

They also went pretty high on the melatonin (5 gram), which is the highest on our list.

One scoop will help you with getting rested, deeper REM sleep, and help you with recovering from your workout, and it's overall an excellent bodybuilding sleep aid.

4. Animal PM

Animal is known for it's stacked products like the Animal Pak all-in-one vitamin supplement.

They also released a very stacked sleep supplement that is not only focused on sleep but also on improving your immune system and growth hormone.

It contains many different ingredients however, they all have very low dosages. The serving size of Animal PM is approximately 7 grams which are way lower compared to the others.

Don't get me wrong, it's a solid product, however, the dosages would need to be higher to feel some real effects.

5. EVL Sleep Mode

Sleep mode

SLEEPMODE by EVL Nutrition is last on our list. This doesn't mean it's a bad product, it's actually a pretty solid product for the price you have to pay.

It contains the basic herbs and amino acids which are definitely needed in a natural bodybuilding sleep aid.

However, the dosages they added are just way to low. For example, they added only 100mg of GABA. Studies with GABA used (at least) 1.5 grams.

The price is obviously way lower, so if you are looking for a cheap option, this is it.

Ingredients Should You Look For In a Bodybuilding Sleep Aid

You must always take a look at the ingredients and dosages before purchasing a product.

This could make the difference between a good product and a shitty one.

If you're buying a product that is not on this list, always make sure to check if the following ingredients are added with the correct dosages.

You will see many formula's that added a ‘blend,' which is basically a tactic to protect their formula. However, this could also mean that they are hiding something. That's why our preference goes out to supplement companies that are completely transparent with their customers.

Also known as Gamma-aminobutyric acid is an amino acid that naturally occurs in the human body. It's known for its neurotransmitter function in the brain and could provide a calming effect.

It's mostly used as a relaxing and anti-stress supplement and could also help with improving sleep in people that have insomnia.

The optimal dosage would be between 500-3000mg a day. Researchers found out that 3 grams of GABA a day would lead to an increase in growth hormone by 400%.

A very low dosage would be 200mg, and I wouldn't recommend buying the product if it's that low.

Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone in the human body that is responsible for making you tired and manage your natural sleep cycle.

It's often prescribed by doctors to improve sleep quality but also used against high blood pressure and lowering cortisol.

A study showed that it could drastically improve sleep quality when taken 2 hours before bed.

An optimal dosage would be between 1-10mg a day.

Valerian Root

Valerian root extract is a herb that is commonly used as a natural sleep aid. It has been used for decades as a herb that will make relaxed and tired.

It works by decreasing anxiety and inhibiting GABA in your brains.

An optimal dosage would be between 200 and 900mg a day.

The Bottom Line

Bodybuilding sleep aid supplements are amazing to help you get enough quality sleep to feel refreshed, but also help you with building muscle, losing fat and increasing growth hormone.

Do sleep supplements actually work?

The short answer is: yes, they do work, however, to a certain degree.

Most ingredients that these supplement companies add in their formula have all been researched thoroughly by many researchers. They also have been used in traditional medicines for a very long time.

With combined research and anecdotal experience, we can say that these supplements will help you with getting asleep faster and more profound.

You have to understand that these supplements are (almost) all completely natural, which means that they will practically have no adverse effects as well.

A sleep medicine prescribed by your doctor will be much stronger and more effective. But, it will also be harder on your body in terms of side-effects and can be addictive.

Take melatonin, for example. It has over 20.000 studies on the physiological effects, but also safety.

If you are looking for a supplement that has sadetive effects and also has the ability to help you with deeper REM sleep, than yes a bodybuilding sleep aid is perfect for you.

Are there any side-effects?

Most natural sleep aids are well tolerated and come with little to no side-effects. However, some users have noted some adverse effects.

Side-effects associated with these supplements are:

- Dizziness - Confusion
- Dry mouth
- Nausea

These effects can be experienced. However, they are not common.

Valerian Root is added almost always, and researchers found out that it has virtually no side effects.

If you would compare the side effects of natural sleep aids to prescription sleep aids, you will see that it has way fewer side effects.

Why is sleep important for bodybuilding?

It's old news that sleep is one of the most important factors for strength and building muscle. Your body needs at least 7-8 hours of sleep a day for optimal function.

Bodybuilding is all about building muscle, definition, fat-loss, and being in shape all-around. Sleep plays a vital role in either building new skeletal muscle, recovering, and fat-loss.

If you are experiencing a lack of sleep, your body will feel weak and tired all day. You can, of course, drink a cup of coffee or pre-workout, but the lack of sleep will catch up on you later on.

Some bodybuilders also experience insomnia from some compounds they have to take to get in shape. A natural sleep aid can help to get relaxed and improve REM sleep.
